Incumbent sheriff and DA kick off bid for another term

Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz, a Marshfield resident, and Plymouth County Sheriff Joe McDonald, a Kingston resident, are  close friends and colleagues. Last night they were referred to as the ‘“A Team" of law enforcement in Plymouth County, when they were brought up to thank their supporters at a joint campaign kickoff party at T-bones Roadhouse Restaurant in downtown Plymouth.

More than a hundred supporters of each came out and packed the place to support the two law enforcement leaders as the two seek re-election.

Cruz admits that the next few months on the campaign trail leading up to November’s election will be interesting. He says one of the highlights of his time in office has been the collaboration between all the departments, including the D.A.’s office and the sheriff’s department.

Cruz will face a challenge for the D.A.’s seat, from Democrat Jack Shea.

McDonald is also facing a challenger for the job; Democrat Rick Pond declared his candidacy for sheriff earlier this year.

McDonald says he is looking forward to a spirited campaign season, during which he can let the voters of Plymouth County know what is happening at the sheriff’s department and inform the public about what services and programs they have added.

McDonald says that it’s crucial for the D.A.’s office and the sheriff’s department to work together

Plymouth Chief Mike Botieri, Duxbury Chief Matt Clancy, Norwell Chief Ted Ross, Norwell Fire Chief Andy Reardon and Marshfield Chief Kevin Robinson are a few on the list that came out from the public safety sector to throw their support behind both McDonald and Cruz.
